Terms of Service

These terms cover this website and the services of Red Leaf Moving, a trade name of Artur Chuyashov, sole proprietor, Edmonton, Alberta (Alberta trade name TN28348407, GST 714721958 RT0001). For every move, the Services Agreement you sign is the contract. If it differs from this page, the signed agreement wins.

Rates and billing

Local moves are billed hourly by crew size: 1 mover $90, 2 movers $150, 3 movers $200, 4 movers $240, 5 movers $280 per hour with our truck. Labour-only rates apply when you supply the truck.
The rate includes the truck, fuel and mileage within 50 km of Edmonton, moving blankets, shrink wrap, floor runners, straps, dollies, basic tools and standard bed frame disassembly and reassembly.
Billing starts when we start loading and ends when the truck is empty, in 15-minute increments. A 3-hour minimum applies. Breaks the crew takes aren't billed. Time spent waiting for access or for packing to be finished is billed.
Packing materials are included at no extra charge. Junk removal disposal fees are charged at cost. Extra stops are billed at the hourly rate.
Moves to or from places more than 50 km from Edmonton are quoted as a flat price in writing, which replaces the hourly rate and the minimum.
GST of 5% is added to all charges.

Estimates

An estimate is a good-faith range, not a fixed price. If your move is going to go past the estimate's maximum, the crew will stop and ask you before continuing. You can approve on the spot or by text. If what we're moving or the access is very different from what you told us, we'll agree on a new estimate with you before going ahead.

Booking, deposits and payment

Sending a form or a message doesn't book a date. Your date is booked once we confirm it with you and any deposit is received.
No deposit for jobs under $450. Above that it's $50 to $300 depending on the size of the job, and it comes off your final bill.
The balance is due when the move is finished, before the crew leaves, by card, e-transfer to etransfer@redleafmoving.ca, or cash. We never ask for payment to any other e-transfer address.

Cancelling or rescheduling

48 hours' notice or more: no charge, and your deposit is refunded or moved to a new date. You can reschedule once at no charge.
24 to 48 hours' notice: the deposit is kept.
Less than 24 hours' notice, or we arrive and can't start: the deposit is kept and a call-out fee of 2 hours at your booked rate applies.
If we have to cancel for any reason, including weather or a vehicle breakdown, your deposit is refunded in full within 5 business days or we move you on a date you choose.

Your right to cancel

If you sign your agreement at your home, or anywhere other than our place of business, you can cancel it for any reason within 10 days of receiving a copy, under Alberta's Consumer Protection Act. Tell us in writing, in a way you can prove, and any refund owed is paid within 15 days.

Your part

Have boxes packed, sealed and labelled before we arrive, unless you booked packing.
Be at both addresses, or name someone in writing who can direct the crew, approve changes and sign the job ticket.
Arrange parking, loading zones, elevator bookings and building access, and cover any fees for them.
Disconnect, drain, defrost and dry appliances at least 24 hours before the move, and disconnect electronics.
Tell us about heavy or specialty items and any access limits before moving day.
Keep pets and children away from the work area, and carry cash, jewellery, ID, documents, keys and medication yourself.
Walk through both places with the crew before they leave.

Items we don't move

Hazardous or flammable goods (including propane and other pressurized tanks, gasoline, oil, paint, solvents, chemicals, fireworks and ammunition), firearms unless they're unloaded, cased, locked and handled by you as the law requires, perishable food, live animals, and live plants at the crew's discretion. We also don't move pool tables or full-size grand pianos, which need a specialist. The crew may decline any item it judges unsafe to move.

Coverage for your belongings

Our liability for loss or damage is $0.60 per pound ($1.32 per kilogram) per item, the standard basic coverage in the Canadian moving industry, included at no extra cost. It's based on weight, not value, so check whether your home or tenant insurance covers goods in transit.

We aren't responsible for the contents of boxes you packed, pre-existing damage, ready-to-assemble or particleboard furniture, internal failure of appliances or electronics with no visible damage, items you declined to have wrapped or taken apart, items moved a certain way against the crew's advice, or delays and indirect losses. If the crew sees a real risk with an item and you want to go ahead anyway, we'll ask you to sign a short waiver for that item only.

Our $2M commercial general liability insurance covers damage to the buildings at both ends of your move. A certificate is available on request.

Damage claims

Note any visible damage on the job ticket before the crew leaves, and send a written claim to info@redleafmoving.ca within 30 days with photos and a description. We'll respond in writing within 15 business days, and may repair or replace an item instead of paying cash.

Junk removal

By booking junk removal you confirm the items are yours to get rid of and don't contain hazardous waste. Disposal fees are charged at cost, and we'll tell you about any item with an extra disposal fee before we load it.

Safety on the job

The crew may decline any task it considers unsafe. Customers and guests can't ride in the moving truck. If anyone at either address is abusive or threatening toward the crew, the crew may stop work and leave, and the time already worked is payable.

Delays

Arrival times are estimates. We aren't liable for delays caused by weather, road conditions, traffic, vehicle breakdowns, building access or other causes outside our control, and we'll tell you as soon as we know about one.

Referral program

Referral rewards and discounts follow the terms on our referral program page. We can change or end the program at any time, but that won't affect a referral already confirmed.

This website

Prices, the cost calculator and descriptions on this site are general information, not a quote. Your quote and signed agreement set the terms for your move.
Please use the site lawfully. Don't misuse our forms or try to disrupt the site.
The text, photos and logo on this site belong to Red Leaf Moving and can't be copied without our permission.
Links to other websites are for convenience. We aren't responsible for their content.

General

These terms are governed by the laws of Alberta. Nothing here limits your rights under Alberta's Consumer Protection Act. If any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. We may update this page from time to time, and the date at the top shows the latest version.
